Some people are using coffee enemas to "cleanse" their colons. The claim is that toxins and undigested food build up in your colons like poop in a toilet and you should periodically flush all of this stuff out of you. Now this belief is not new. For hundreds of years, people believed in such "autointoxication," a term for being slowly poisoned by accumulating toxins in the intestines. Then something called science came along after the end of the 19th century and found no real evidence behind these beliefs, as detailed in this publication in the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology. In other words, scientists deemed many claims about enemas to be full of...well you know what.
