Don’t listen to Gwyneth Paltrow – IVs are not a shortcut to good health
Glutathione is heralded as the “master antioxidant” in the body and is naturally produced by our cells, working to prevent oxidative stress and tissue damage. The body’s demand for this nutrient is believed to increase as we age. Studies have reported that taking an oral glutathione supplement doesn’t increase blood levels in humans.
In 2015, a trial reported some beneficial effects on immune function with long-term glutathione oral supplementation, but the authors said more studies were required to further understand the nature of these effects.

Glutathione!
The obvious strategy is to directly administer glutathione. This can be done orally, topically, intravenously, intranasally, or in nebulized form. Glutathione administered intravenously, inhaled, and ingested intranasally increases systemic levels. IV glutathione has a short half-life but has shown at least short-term efficacy in several diseases. Oral administration is controversial; while most research shows that oral glutathione does not increase RBC glutathione, there are a few studies that show efficacy.
Glutathione for skin lightening: a regnant myth or evidence-based verity?
Even though parenteral glutathione is approved only for severe liver disorders and for prevention of chemotherapy associated neurotoxicity, the lack of statutory laws governing the use of systemic glutathione in most countries has contributed to its unchecked use for skin lightening. The current clinical evidence of intravenous glutathione for skin lightening is limited to a single study with a dubious study design and apparently flawed analysis of results, casting doubt on the drug’s efficacy and reported adverse effects.

If you remember high school chemistry, you’ll recall that oxidation is the process that rusts iron and turns apples brown. The same thing happens in your body. As your mitochondria—the little powerhouses in your cells—use oxygen to create energy they produce a form of exhaust: free radicals and ROS that can damage your health. Optimal levels of glutathione readily addresses these issues, so it’s easy to see why having enough is crucial.
I Tried a Glow-Boosting IV Treatment to See If It'd Give Me Better Skin
"The Glow Drip that we offer is basically just glutathione, which is known as a master antioxidant," she explains. "It works to detox your liver and kidneys. Once those are detoxed, your skin is healthier and looks refreshed. Everyone calls it the glutathione glow."
A New Skin Lightening Procedure Is Short on Evidence
Glutathione is an antioxidant naturally found in human cells that neutralizes free radicals, boosts the immune system and detoxifies the body. It can also cause skin lightening by converting melanin to a lighter color and deactivating the enzyme tyrosinase, which helps produce the pigment. Intravenous glutathione treatments, like those Ms. Peters receives, are meant to increase those natural effects, diminishing scars and blotches while lightening skin color over all.
Do Glutathione Infusions Really Work?
IV Glutathione and Cinderella Drip contain glutathione for a very good reason—the whitening effect is just icing on the cake. Some might not be aware that glutathione already occurs in the body naturally. The little guy is responsible for combatting free radical damage and improved immune response. It plays a critical role in the body for detoxification and inhibiting inflammation. So getting more of it is a good thing, for sure!
Glutathione and Parkinson’s
Since glutathione is categorized as a supplement, it doesn’t require U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval, and is already widely available. Even though it isn’t very effective, oral glutathione is offered by many retailers. Some intranasal sprays (different formulations from those being used in studies) are sold as well. And even though there is no standard dosing protocol and insurance often doesn’t cover the cost, many doctors and clinics will administer intravenous glutathione.
Glutathione Injection: Is It Really Worth The Hype?
Glutathione is a very important antioxidant that our bodies naturally produce. It has many benefits for the body and can help with many ailments. The injection of glutathione is more effective than oral versions of this supplement. My patients feel they get the benefits of glutathione injections which improve the skin's appearance, brightness, and pigmentation. When performed correctly at the right dosing it can be worth the hype.
Glutathione IV Skin Lightening: Myth or Fact
Glutathione drip usually requires weekly intravenous administration. You may need to take eight to ten sessions for your dream color. However, it varies from person to person, depending on your skin, health, absorption, and consistency.
How Can Glutathione Impact Inflammatory Conditions?
Could help with managing autoimmune conditions: According to an Autoimmunity Reviews article, chronic degenerative conditions tend to lack “antioxidant defense systems.” Glutathione could assist with managing autoimmune conditions by safeguarding the body against oxidative stress, which can trigger inflammation; and by supporting the detoxification of xenobiotics. It’s also been postulated that glutathione could help ease inflammation because it’s associated with supporting balance (homeostasis) in the human body.
Landmark Antioxidant Study Shows Oral Glutathione Is Bioavailable, May Benefit Immune Heath
A new study may quell controversy over whether oral supplementation with the antioxidant glutathione works. While the few human clinical studies performed on glutathione so far have shown less-than-impressive results, this first-ever long-term study indicates that oral supplementation with glutathione does in fact significantly increase the body’s own glutathione levels.
Potential use of glutathione as a treatment for Parkinson's disease
In conclusion, despite the limitations of the present study (which may have influenced these results), it was concluded that GSH may slightly improve the motor scores of patients with PD, though not at the expense of increased AEs. Furthermore, the GSH dosage may influence the efficacy. However, these conclusions warrant further investigation in the future.
Women Are Taking Extreme Measures to Lighten Their Skin Through IV Treatments
The boom of inclusive foundation shades. Skin-tone emojis that better reflect our diversity. Popular hashtags #MelaninMagic and #PaleandProud. In a word: progress. So why are some women going to extreme measures to alter their natural complexions? The reasons might be as complicated as the risks.
