The goal of the Stroke Center Network is to ensure that all stroke patients in the US have access to quality stroke care. We seek to achieve this goal by supplying our members with tools and resources that will help to improve individual stroke patient outcomes.
The Commissioner of Health is pleased to inform you that it is the intent of the Department of Health to establish State designated stroke centers statewide to improve the standard and access to quality of care for patients with a presumptive diagnosis of stroke.
The Acute Stroke Treatment Program (ASTP) guides hospitals through a step-by-step process for establishing a Primary Stroke Center in their facility.
The Primary Stroke Center Certification Program uses the Recommendations for Primary Stroke Centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and American Stroke Association statements for stroke. The program, implemented by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO), evaluates stroke care provided by hospitals.
Anne Arundel Medical Center has earned certification as a primary stroke center from the Joint Commission, becoming the only hospital in the region and one of just eight in the state to have earned this highly specialized designation.

Offering the region’s most comprehensive neuro care, Mission Hospital is a certified Primary Stroke Center – the only community-based hospital in Orange County and one of only two hospitals countywide to hold this elite certification. This elite distinction recognizes expert physicians and staff have the capabilities to deliver the most advanced stroke care for critical cases. Less than five percent of hospital’s in the U.S. hold a Primary Stroke Center certification.

Providence Stroke Center is the first nationally certified stroke center in Oregon. It boasts 24-hour on-call teams at both Providence Portland Medical Center and Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. Our stroke team experts include neurologists, neurosurgeons, radiologists, nurses and therapists. They quickly diagnose patients and use the most advanced methods available to restore blood flow to the brain.
The Stanford Stroke Center brings together physicians from multiple specialties, including neurology, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, internal medicine and emergency medicine to provide comprehensive evaluation and management of patients with cerebrovascular diseases
Welcome to the Stroke Trials Registry, a continuously updated registry of randomized clinical trials in stroke and cerebrovascular disease. This project is a free public service from the Internet Stroke Center at Washington University School of Medicine; with support from the American Stroke Association and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke.
Many hospitals participate in the StrokeSense program, there doctors and emergency response teams are well equipped with information about stroke.
