Diet is an important factor in stroke, for which overweight and obesity are established risk factors. Strategies to reduce overweight include changes in behaviour, physical activity, diet and combinations of all three approaches. Recommended changes in diet include reducing salt, increasing dietary fibre, and eating enough fresh fruit and vegetables.
Diet and Exercise. These two factors dominate the literature on preventative medicine. By engaging in a conscious plan of healthful eating and physical activity, many of the most prevalent diseases can be averted.
Eat a well-balanced diet with an emphasis on fresh vegetables and fruits; lean, clean protein foods; and whole grains. This diet is important for the health of the blood vessels. It also ensures that you receive an abundant supply of important vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals (antioxidant compounds in plants) that fight free-radical damage and help increase the oxygenation of tissues, including those of the brain.
There are more benefits to the DASH plan than just lowering your sodium intake and helping prevent high blood pressure. The DASH plan is also low in saturated fat and low in cholesteral.
